Charles Babbage Day

22nd December 2017 was celebrated as Charles Babbage Day, by FusionTech –The BCA club and the Department of Computer Science of Bhavan’s Vivekananda Degree College to commemorate his 226th Birthday, in honor and respect for his dedication towards the development of computers.
The key note speaker for the day was Mr. C Madhusudhan Rao , Delivery Manager, Tech-Mahindra, who was graced on the dais along with Mrs. B Niraimathi, Vice Principal, BVC and Mrs KVB Saraswathi,  Head, Dept of Computer Science.
The event began with the Lighting of the lamp which is believed to be very auspicious as per the Indian Culture before the beginning of any event. It was then followed by a very informative presentation on the Life of Charles Babbage by Tusshar and Vaishnavi from B.Sc MPCS and BCA 1st year respectively. This was followed by welcome address by Mrs. KVB Saraswathi, Head,Dept of Comp. Sci and Mrs. B Niraimathi, Vice Principal, BVC.
Mrs Padmapriya, Lecturer, Dept of Comp. Sci gave a brief report on Charles Babbage Day along with the students and Faculty’s contribution towards getting different projects done in the past and the current academic years.  She has highlighted on the various courses that were conducted as value-added courses in the college under the guidance of different faculty members from the department. A special presentation was given by Vivek Ganti, a BCA 1st year student on Quantum Computing.
The Keynote speaker, Mr. Madhusudhan Rao was then requested to address the students on Big Data. Mr C Madusudhan spoke on what is Big Data, how is it important and why is it an area of more opportunity for computer science students in the  present days. He also focused on the various tools used by Big Data, and about the challenges of the same. He was given a token of appreciation for accepting our invitation by Head, Dept of Comp. Sci , Mrs KVB Saraswathi.
The next session began with T. T. V Vamsi, BCA final year student and the President of FusionTech Club introducing the club, briefing about the activities and the main motto of the club. He then introduced the lecturer incharges of the club and the student heads who were later felicitated with badges as per their roles.
Post the official inauguration of the I.T Club, we had few students giving presentations on the various projects they have done on different platforms such as Android ,Arduino and C programming. This session was very interesting and motivating to see the students develop new applications, websites and devices which can be of use in our day-to-day life.
The presentations of the students were followed by the Valedictory programme where all the students who participated and gave presentations were awarded with participation certificates. The top students who were shortlisted by the judges for the Best projects were also announced for each platform/category and awarded with Mementos and certificates.

Special appreciation awards were given to two of our students, one to T.T.V.Vamsi Krishna, a Final year BCA student who was given the title, Mr. Techno Ment, and Vishal Malve a Final Year B.Sc MECS was entitled Mr. Computer-G for their exceptional effort in doing the projects themselves as well as motivating and guiding other students.
The program came to an end with Mr. G Mahesh Kumar, the coordinator of BCA, giving the Vote of Thanks, thanking each and every student and Faculty members who put in their best efforts in making the event a grand success.

 

 

National Seminar 2017-18 : "Internet of Things – Applications and Security”

Bhavan’s Vivekanada College of Science, Humanities and Commerce, Sainikpuri, has a long standing record of pursuing a policy of excellence through a holistic approach to education. The department of  Computer Science organized a seminar  on the theme; Internet of Things – Applications and Security” on September 7th, 8th, 2017. It was attended by Air Cmde (retd) J.L.N. Sastry, Vice Chairman, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan; Guest Mr. Venugopal Kandimalla, Vice-President & Global Delivery Head, Tech Mahindra, Hyderabad;  The Convener of the seminar Ms. K Saraswathi, Head Department Of Computer Science, gave the welcome address on the concept note of the seminar. Principal Prof. Y Ashok emphasized on the usage of health devices with IOT, Future opportunities in the field of IOT and its security. He also highlighted the applications of IOT like smart homes. The Guest Mr. Venugopal Kandimalla, Vice-President & Global Delivery Head, Tech Mahindra, Hyderabad had emphasized the IOT implementation for the quality and high productivity in agriculture field. The cost effectiveness implementation of IOT in different domains (like Industry, Academic, Science & Technology etc.). The Keynote speaker for the inaugural session was Prof.K Srinivas, Professor, ICT, Delhi. He emphasized on IOT enabled education, class room environment and organization of courses using IOT. He highlighted the features of MOOCS. He explained the opportunities & future career building with IOT. We received publications from AP, Tamilnadu, Orissa, Telangana, states of India and also from USA & Singapore of which 65 full papers have been published in International Journal of Advance Research in Science & Engineering. The  Day 2 started with distinguished speaker Mr.K Rajasekhar,Deputy Director General, National Informatics Centre, Centre for Data Governance, Hyderabad. He emphasized on the usage of IOT in contest to Indian Governance. Post Lunch Session started with panel discussion, the topic being “Cyber Security”. The Moderator for panel discussion was Prof. M V Ramama Murthy, Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, OU; Academician Prof P R K Murti, Dean R&D, Jayamukhi Institute of Technological Sciences, Narsampet, Warangal; Industrialist Mr Sreenivas Jasti, Head, Program Manager Office, India Telecom Media & Entertainment, TCS, Hyderabad; Alumni Student Mr Krishna Ivatury, Project Delivery, GSS Infotech Limited. An active interactive discussion which lasted for more than 2 hrs, was brain storming and interactive. The Programme was an enriching learning experience for all the delegates present at the Seminar. The Two Day National Seminar on the theme “Internet of Things – Applications and Security” conducted with Valedictory function headed by Air Cmde(Retd.) JLN Shastry, Vice Chairman BVC; Prof. M V Ramama Murthy, Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, OU; Prof. Y Ashok, Principal BVC; Mrs K Saraswathi, HOD Computer Sc. BVC.

 

Orientation Program 2017-18

An orientation program was conducted for the students who were joining the first year of Under-Graduation for the academic year 2017-18, on 23rd June, 2017.  Dr Debasis Chatterji, CEO, Netxcell, was the Chief Guest who had addressed the students on how to make the best use of the infrastructure and the Faculty of the college which could help in laying a better foundation for their career. Dr Debasis also had a time of personal interaction with the students through which the students could get their general questions answered. We also had a Motivational talk by Dr Vivek Modi, whose talk had really motivated the students on how to keep our goals aimed at to be successful in our career. The program was then followed by our Alumni Students sharing experiences of their stay in the college. Archana and Sravani Reddy are the alumni students who spoke about the importance, our college gives to Sports. From the Commerce department, Mr. Deepesh Jobanputra was invited. M Hasitha was invited from the NSS unit of our college.
K Saritha Reddy, alumni from the Life Sciences was invited to share about her memories with the College.Mr. Abhishek Pandey, alumni from BCA had represented the NCC wing of the college and how the college had provided him with the various opportunities in NCC along with academics.

Outreach Program 2017-18

As a part of department activities, Department of Computer Science organized a 5 day Outreach program on “FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTERS” from 19-6-2017 to 24-6-2017 at  Government School (Boys and  Girls)-Tirumalagiri and  Z.P.H. School-  Kapra, for 8th &  9th class students.

Following faculty members of our department along with B.C.A  final year students conducted theory and practical Classes at their school using Projector rooms and computer labs.

The BCA student were exposed to real world teaching applications and  achieved wonderful experience teaching to school students.  Students gave very positive feedback. Also expressed their opinion of conduction such classes regularly and teach many more useful applications for them in future.

The faculty were happy and got different experience from teaching to school students.  The feedback from school students is appreciated.  We are thankful to Schools Headmasters, for their co-operation and support for the successful execution of the program.  We will try to provide more practical hours in the fore coming programs to improve more student understandability

 

List of Activities in 2016-17:

GTVM – 2017 (15th March, 2017)

As a regular practice of interaction of M.Sc.(Computer Science) students with Industrialist/Academics, this year the department of computer science conducted program on 15th March, 2017.  Department conducted power point presentation competition among students on latest technologies.  Students gave seminars on 13 topics and 26 students participated.  List is enclosed herewith. 

We invited the speakers as follows:
1. “ BIG DATA ANALYTICS”, Prof. VV Hara Gopal, Professor, Dept. of Statistics, OU, Hyderabad.
2. “DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS – ISSUES (MOBILE BANKING)”, Prof. VN Sastry, Professor & Head, IRDBT, Hyderabad.
The lectures were informative and thought provoking.  The speakers share their experience and applications of their topics. We had top 5 students seminars in the pre lunch session. We distributed prizes to the top 3 seminar presentations in the valedictory session.  It went on well and success without any delay or disturbance.

Brief details: As per the culture of Bhavanotsav, every academic year BVC organizes inter college techno cultural fest for aspirants assembling from various colleges with a very high competitive spirit to participate and a strong determination to indulge in their achievements & accomplishments.

 

Charles Babbage Day 2016-17

The department of computer science conducts annual event Charles Babbage Day in the month of December in commemoration of the birth celebrations of Charles Babbage – The Father of Computing.

The department started this event in the year 2005. The main objective of this programme is to provide the computer science students a platform to know, learn and get an awareness of the latest emerging trends in computer science and information technology.

To accomplish this very objective, the department motivates the students to participate in several events in areas of computer science and information technology conducted during this programme.

The department conducts events including:

  1. IT Workshop
  2. Mini Project
  3. Guest Lectures
  4. Seminars
  5. IT Quiz
  6. LAN Gaming
  7. Shotgun Debugging etc.

 

The department also provides the students an opportunity to interact with the college alumni.  This gives them a chance to know and learn from their experiences, prepare themselves with the skill set required before they move out of the college portals and face the outside world.

The department also arranges guest lecture on several areas of computer science by eminent personalities from industry and academia.

Our guest speaker was Mr. Praveen Pakala (Project Manager in Cognizant).  He spoke about “Importance of digitalization”.

This year we had very good participation in poster presentation on the occasion of “Charles Babbage Day” on the topic “Latest Trends in Information Technology”.
The prelims for the poster presentation was held on 21st Dec, 2016(2.30 PM – 5.00 PM) among which 27 teams – members of two participated. Juries for the day were: Ms. K. Padma Priya, Lecturer and Mr. G Mahesh Kumar, Assistant Professor Among 27 teams, 10 teams were shortlisted for the final round that was held on 24th Dec 2016.The final round for the poster presentation was held on “Charles Babbage Day” (24th Dec, 2016: 2.00 PM – 3.30 PM) Juries for the day were: Dr Jyothi Nayar Head of the Dept. Botany, Genetics &Biotechnology    and Dr. Vidya Jonnalagadda, Lecturer in Microbiology.

The winners for the day:   

  1. First Prize - Krishnamurthy and B Arun (Biometric Technology)
  2. Second Prize- T T V Vamsi and N Naveen (LiFi)

As usual the Mini Projects competition was a grand event. 22 teams participated and they presented their projects on 24th December, 2016.This year the day began with Mrs. KVB Saraswathi, HOD of Computer Science report on activities held by the department. Principal motivated the students how the technology is important for the current generation. Mr. G Mahesh Kumar, Assistant Professor gave a review on current year activities.

The day concluded with prize distribution ceremony and certificates for value-added courses (BASIC MS-OFFICE, IT-HARDWARE WORKSHOP, DATA ANALYSIS & ADVANCED EXCEL AND JAVA & DATA STRUCTURES) also distributed. The great enthusiasm was shown by the students when the winners of mini projects and poster presentation were announced. The prize winners got certificates and mementos. The day ended with great joy and happiness.

 

 

Value-Added Course-2016-17

The department of computer science has conducted value-added courses in the following areas in the month of July 2016:

BASIC MS-OFFICE

BASIC MS-OFFICE was handled by Mr. CHNV Mallikharjuna Rao and Mr. P Srinivasa, Lecturer in department in computer science. This course duration was for 25 days. In this, contents like MS-Word, MS-Powerpoint, MS-Access, MS-Excel was covered. Total numbers of students registered were 26 and they were from B.Sc Physical Sciences I Semester.

 

IT-HARDWARE WORKSHOP

IT-HARDWARE WORKSHOP was handled by Mr. D Ramakrishna, Lecturer, and Mr. P Abhay Kumar, Network Administration in department of computer science. This course duration was for 5 days. In this, contents like overview and identification of hardware components, assembling and disassembling of PC was covered. Total numbers of students registered were 82 and they were from B.Sc, BBA, BA, B.Com I & III semester.

 

 

DATA ANALYSIS & ADVANCED EXCEL

DATA ANALYSIS & ADVANCED EXCEL was handled by Mrs. K Padma Priya, Lecturer and Mrs. Vijaya, Programmer in department of computer science. This course duration was for 25 days. In this, contents like basics, formulas, functions, charts, filtering and sorting, data validation, conditional formatting in excel was covered. Total numbers of students registered were 66 and they were from BCA, B.Sc, and M.Com II & III year students.

 

 

JAVA & DATA STRUCTURES

JAVA & DATA STRUCTURES was handled by Mr. G Mahesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in department of computer science. This course duration was for 60 days. In this, contents like basics in java, classes, objects, arrays, strings, multithreading and java data structures were covered.  Total numbers of students registered were 8 and they were from B.Sc (Physical Science & Life Sciences) III Semester.

 

 

 

Outreach Program

As a part of department activities, Computer department organized a 5 day Outreach program on “FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTERS” from 18-7-2016 to 22-7-2016 at Z.P.H. School, Neredmet, Secunderabad for 9th class students.

This year, our alumni of 2015 batch Mr. Sagar Suri spoke about his experience like how the Department encouraged the students to do mini projects.
This year One of our guest was Dr.Venkat Reddy Donthi Reddy. He gave a lecture on “Emerging trends in intellectual property rights”.The other lecture was by Mr.YashwanthBabuKarkada,Asst. Manager in Wipro  on “Key factors to success in interview for UG students”.
This year we had very good participation in quiz competition. Totally 41 teams participated .

 

As usual the Mini Projects competition was a grand event. 16 teams participated and they presented their projects on 23rd December, 2015.This year the day began with Mrs. KVB Saraswathi, HOD of Computer Science who gave a report on activities held by the department. Placement Training Program
The Department of Computer Science conducted a Placement Training Program for B.Sc and B.C.A III year students. This is the 4th year in succession the Department is conducting this program. The main Objective of this program is to bring awareness amongst the students about the preparation or ground work required for facing interviews during placement drives held in the college and off campus.

The Department regularly conducts IT symposium (named Gynana Tharangini Vyakyana Mala) every year for M.Sc computer Science students to provide them a platform to interact with the alumni students and industry to update them on latest trends in IT & corporate world.

BCA students organize Hardware workshop every year under the supervision and guidance of the department.

The Department conducts extended Guest lectures on various topics for M.Sc Computer Science students covering modern trends and technologies.

The Department organizes Charles Babbage Day every year for Computer Science students on 26th December in commemoration of birth celebrations of Charles Babbage, the Father of Computing.

During this event, we conduct various competitions like paper presentations, poster presentations, quiz, online examination, test your programming skills, utility programmes etc.

The Department is also responsible for EZ school maintenance, system maintenance, OU software maintenance for nominal rolls etc.
